Bella Gatta

Just one more street mog for the collection. Quite a few more have been spotted, but they're often too shy to say hello and certainly too quick for the camera.

Streetmogs name: n/a
Actual name: Bella
Favourite Location: Path
Preferred stroke: Chin tickle
Character: Timid and unimpressed
Other: Another cat that can be addressed by its real name, this time due to a lovely chat with her owner, who was happy to learn of this blog and let me fuss over her beautiful mog. Only one year old, she was a skittish little thing and had just been scared witless by the vacuum cleaner and forced to cower in the porch.

The Domino Effect

A couple more additions from recent days. Streetmog history has been made with the discovery of a cat's actual name*, thanks to its nice collar tag. It could have been a double, as the other mog was also wearing a tag but your blogger forgot to check it out...

Streetmogs name: n/a
Actual name: *Domino
Favourite Location: Postman's legs & wall post
Preferred stroke: Chin & tummy rub
Character: Demanding
Other: Domino was a noisy fellow, miaowing incessantly as he prowled the pavement alongside the beautiful Southside common. He threw himself down at one point for the full underbelly rub, and executed the classic scratch, bite and back-leg-double-running-thrust as I tickled him. I was glad to be sporting gloves.

Streetmogs name: Molasses
Actual name:
Favourite Location: In postman's footsteps
Preferred stroke: Any he can get
Character: Attention seeking softie
Other: Molasses was hilarious. A colleague had warned me about this follower of a street mog. True to form, he proceeded to pursue our postman up one side of the street and half-way down the other, purring and even pummelling the wall-tops (see first photo) as he went. What a cracker.

Felines & Fog

Another damp and grey day, although it was pleasantly clement out and I appreciated the smells & atmosphere that only a gloomy broody day in England can provide. Only one street mog ventured out to say hello:

Streetmogs name: Misty
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Postman's legs & wall post
Preferred stroke: Chin tickle
Character: ADHD
Other: Misty was all over the shop, with incessant miaowing and a refusal to keep still. She was certainly affectionate and was keen to play, but also wanted to go indoors. Pretty tricky to get a decent photo of this naughty kit.

Stalker

A rotten day, for so many reasons which won't be detailed (this blog is all about the street mogs, not the author), although one major contributing factor was the terrible weather. Despite the persistent rain, one or two cats showed themselves. The following one appeared twice, confusing me into believing I'd found two more blog mogs. On closer inspection, it seems that the cat spotted earlier in South Road was indeed the the cat that was watching me from atop a shed in Bewley Street an hour later on...

Streetmogs name: Magpie
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Shed roof
Preferred stroke: Chin tickle
Character: Stalker
Other: Magpie was an affecionate and expressive chap, miaowing to be let in when I came across his sodden figure in the porch of his house. Little did I know that I would be seeing the adventurer again. I think this mog craves human company, or attention; he certainly rules his manor.

Scaredy cats

Today was a day when all but one of the street mogs were timid little things. Good old scaredy cats they were. A look and a sniff, then turn and flee. Or hide in the bushes. Or under cars. Read on...

Streetmogs name: Tortoise
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Driveway
Preferred stroke: Tummy rub, possibly
Character: Tease
Other: Tortoise, with his glorious patterned coat, was a slow mover. He was happy to come and say hello with a leg brush-past, but then proceeded to roll around on the drive like a mad mog. Any attempt at a tummy tickle was rejected, however, with a swift move to another section of paving.

Streetmogs name: Jellycat
Actual name:
Favourite Location: House path
Preferred stroke: Unknown
Character: Total scaredy cat
Other: Oh Jellycat, bless you and your twitchy whiskers. This sweet street mog was such a timid soul and would not allow any contact. When an approach was attempted, the ginger yellow fellow fled into the back garden.

Streetmogs name: Poppet
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Hiding amongst the shrubs
Preferred stroke: Unknown
Character: Nervy wreck
Other: Poppet, your little face broke my heart. Such a sweet thing, she initially vanished when first spotted, but then appeared behind a wall and this is as close as she'd let me get.

Like buses

You wait for ages and then loads come along at once. It's been almost a week since the last blog but this isn't due to post retardation - there simply have not been any street mog appearances...until today. The coldest day of autumn so far, but the sun was peeking out from behind the clouds and the cats were out on the abundant prowl. Six more on the scoresheet then:

Streetmogs name: Jack Black
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Patio
Preferred stroke: Chin tickle
Character: Twitchy
Other: Jack was a handsome mog and was keen to be petted, although not without some trepidation. Once he accepted the friendly offer of a stroke, he was a real purrer.

Streetmogs name: Liquorice
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Flower pots
Preferred stroke: Nose scratch
Character: Shy but friendly
Other: Initially very wary, but soon made friends and after a little greeting he decided he wanted in, assumed the doorstep position and proceeded to miaow forlornly. Sorry Liquorice, I can't let you in!

Streetmogs name: Jade
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Patio & side alley
Preferred stroke: n/a
Character: Independent spirit
Other: What a Siamese sight to behold. A real surprise, those blue eyes. He appeared from nowhere & I only managed to fire off one shot, so taken was I with this beauty. Despite my attempts at friendship, he didn't hang around for long and scuttled off to explore a side alley. I hope to meet this one again.

Streetmogs name: Slash
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Patio
Preferred stroke: n/a
Character: Playful scaredy
Other: Slash was hilarious, stalking me from behind the undergrowth before he decided to reveal himself. I beckoned him closer by twirling a twig, and he was soon ready to pounce & play...

Streetmogs name: Ginger Kitty
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Crimson couch
Preferred stroke: n/a
Character: Heart-breaker
Other: Words can't do this one justice. The first street mog kitten! A true delight to spot this caramel coloured fluff-ball. He seemed very content to be sat safely indoors. Bless his toffee socks.

Streetmogs name: Napkin
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Pavement
Preferred stroke: Tummy rub (if he lets you get close)
Character: Tease
Other: Napkin confused me. I was positive that this was the same mog (Liquorice) that I'd met earlier and the locations were very close to each other. However, the face is slightly different so this was most definitely the sixth street mog of the day, and what a special chap he was. After some initial reluctance, he gained confidence and showed his true colours; on approaching him with the intention of administering tummy tickles, he liked to up and run and collapse futher down the street. Cheeky puss.

Double trouble

After three hours out in sunny Wimbledon Village, with not a mog in sight, it seemed that the day would draw cat blanks. However, on the final street two lovely specimins appeared, one after the other. The crappy camera phone has now been replaced with a half decent Fujifilm compact, so from this day on there should be an improved level of streetmogtography.

Streetmogs name: Blackie
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Bushes
Preferred stroke: Head scrunch
Character: Timid, but inquisitiveness lead to valour lead to friendliness
Other: Blackie sauntered out from the foliage but only once I'd crouched down and remained very still. Once we'd made friends, he was a most affectionate sort.

Streetmogs name: Jag
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Wall & driveway
Preferred stroke: Tummy tickle
Character: Mental
Other: Directly after leaving Blackie to relax in the grass, I spotted this beautiful thing sat outside the neighbouring house. No timidness here; he jumped off a ledge, approached, did the stretch thing and then proceeded to roll around for 5 mins, on the hunt for tummy tickles, which he got. Such a handsome and striking mog, but too hyper for me to get a decent head shot.

Wet cat

A long, tough day out in the elements today. Drizzle, rain, and then some more drizzle. I was not expecting to see any street mogs out and about, until one dishevelled ginger sauntered along the path to greet me. Small, simple things can bring much joy.

Streetmogs name: Toffee
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Paths & shrubs, out in the rain
Preferred stroke: Chin rub
Character: Friends for life
Other: This puss was a delight. He was sodden, but didn't seem fazed. Once he'd got some attention, he craved more and followed me around the pathways. This cat made my day.

Let me out, let me in...

Streetmogs name: Alexandria of Wimbledon III
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Probably outside. Not the window-sill.
Preferred stroke: Unknown
Character: Plaintif pleader
Other: Oh Alexandria, you are the most beautiful, striking mog encountered so far. This exquisite thing followed me around the bay window, miaowing and pawing the glass, desperate to be let out. He has the looks of a pampered pedigree. Would love to give that fluff a rub. New favourite, by a mog mile.

Streetmogs name: Marmalade
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Presumed to be inside on the sofa, or on a soft duvet.
Preferred stroke: Back rub
Character: Affectionate sop-bag
Other: Fatboy was a delight and he surprised me by appearing from beneath a table. He was very keen to go inside (assuming me to be his owner), leaving me with a feeling of betrayal as I left him to sit futilely at the door. Poor Fatboy.

Streetmogs name: Dapple
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Pavement and recycling boxes
Preferred stroke: Full body
Character: Strumpet tease
Other: This striped fellow was a hoot. Appeared from nowhere and threw himself down in search of some attention, and boy did he get some. Following this, he trotted into a nearby garden where he hopped into a plastic recyling tub. Silly kitty.

The best mogs come in threes

A quite lovely couple of days to be out and about and the cats are still showing themselves, although as this wind bites deeper and the temperatures drop further, our furry friends will be more elusive.

Streetmogs name: Peanut
Actual name:
Favourite Location: Porch
Preferred stroke: Chin tickle
Character: Trusting
Other: Peanut Brittle was a timid old thing, yet was happy to be petted. He was so happy, in fact, that he began to dribble. I think he just wanted to go indoors.

Streetmogs name: Alan
Actual name: Unknown
Favourite Location: Hiding behind plants or in undergrowth
Preferred stroke: Unknown
Character: Scaredy-cat
Other: Alan was a very nervous fellow. This is as close as I could get before he got spooked and ran off into an adjacent garden. A shame, as I think this one needs some love and cuddles.

Streetmogs name: Thumbelina
Actual name: Unknown
Favourite Location: Prowling the pavement
Preferred stroke: Chin & head rub
Character: Affable
Other: Thumbelina was a nervy puss and legged it when the noisy rubbish man came along. Poor thing. We did manage to connect briefly with a little head rub and she was a most friendly and affectionate little thing. Had she not scarpered, I might have been able to look at her collar tag and discover her real name, which would have been a Street Mog first.

Quattro Fourmoggi

The weather's turning, and with cooler temperatures and regular deluges from above, our feline friends are more inclined to stay indoors. However, with the not unusual appearance of some blessed autumnal sunshine, there's always a chance of meeting a new streetmog or two...

Streetmogs name: Jean-Luc
Actual name: Unknown
Favourite Location: Sofa back
Preferred stroke: Unknown
Character: Curious
Other: Jean-Luc didn't seem that happy to be stuck inside; he wanted to play. Such a handsome mog.

Streetmogs name: Chutney
Actual name: Unknown
Favourite Location: Window sill
Preferred stroke: Unknown
Character: Serene
Other: Chutney lives with Jean-Luc. He seemed even more unhappy than his companion to be sat inside, but at least he had company. I love this face. So inquisitive.

Streetmogs name: Sebastian
Actual name: Unknown
Favourite Location: Sofa back
Preferred stroke: Unknown
Character: Regal
Other: Sebastian knew he was a handsome feline. He commanded his space and appeared non-plussed at being disturbed. His home was lush, plush, posh...as is he. I don't think he'd be impressed with the dustbin lid head-piece.

Streetmogs name: Jemima
Actual name: Unknown
Favourite Location: Garden path
Preferred stroke: Neck stroke & tummy tickle
Character: Playful
Other: I think she's a she. A beautiful, svelte thing. Weaved around my legs, flopped on the step and begged for the full tummy tickle.
